Minimum Requirements: 1) Possess a High school diploma or G.E.D. 2) Be able to obtain firearms permit. 3) Be least 19 years old on the date of the examination. 4) Be able to swim. 5) Be a United States citizen at appointment. 6) Be less than 35 years old upon appointment to the State
Police Academy. 7) Not smoke. Benefits: Selections: To gain entry into the State Police, all applicants must take the written entrance examination. The written examination is based on general knowledge. This exam announcement is usually made through the news media, radio, television, and newspapers throughout the Commonwealth. The testing process begins with the written exam and consists of several phases including a physical fitness test, polygraph exam, oral interview, background investigation and medical exam. Recruits must successfully complete approximately six months of training at the State Police Academy in New Braintree. Recruits live at the Academy Monday through Friday during this period. The Recruit Training Program is both mentally and physically challenging. Recruits receive classroom instruction and physical training in a strict, paramilitary environment. The five day week live-in training program is packed with physical training, classroom lectures, role playing, and practical exercised to prepare troopers for the inevitable emergency and sometime dangerous situations they must deal with when they graduate.
