The Maryland Police Corps is an exciting career opportunity for those interested in the field of criminal justice. This is a grant-funded academy by the US Department of Justice and under the leadership of Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention and UMBC. The Maryland Police Corps will give you the opportunity to attend an innovative residential training program which includes a $250 weekly stipend, a paid position with a sponsoring Police Department upon graduation of the academy and up to $30,000 reimbursement for prior college expenses.

You will commit to 4 years as a police officer with all the rights and responsibilities as other members of the police department with which you will serve. Main responsibilities include protecting the vulnerable, establishing peace and order, reclaiming neighborhoods, and enforcing all local and state laws while upholding the constitution.

Current college students are required to apply before graduation!!! The next class will begin in January 2001. All majors are accepted and law enforcement experience is not required. All applicants must meet the minimum standards required by each participating police department including, but not limited to, physical and mental fitness, background check (including criminal history and driving record), and a medical evaluation.
