THE DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY US CUSTOMS SERVICE POSITION: SPECIAL AGENT US Customs Service Office Human Resources Servicewide Special Emphasis Program Coordinator 2120 L Street, Room 7402 Washington, DC 20229GRADES: GS-5 thru GS-12 BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Special Agents are involved with planning and conducting investigations relating to alleged and/or suspected violations of the US Customs law (i.e.: illegal contraband, currency that supports criminal activity, intercepting illegal high-technology exports, preventing fraud). Special Agents perform search/seizure and make arrests. Special Agents may be assigned to various units within the US Customs Services such as the Currency/Money Laundering Program, Pornography Enforcement, or Export Enforcement. Special Agents may be called upon to do surveillance and/or undercover work. TRAINING: Special Agents will receive a 14 week training course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center at Glynco, Georgia. Training includes areas such as child pornography, fraud, smuggling, surveillance techniques and export investigations. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a US citizen. Applicants must fall between 21 and 35 years of age. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or possess one year of general experience and two years of specialized experience. Candidates must be willing to travel and work overtime. Must pass medical examination.
